In the Northwest, it is hard to find a more exciting and humbling view than to catch a glimpse of a majestic bald ealge soaring through the sky or perching on a tree branch. It is a sight that inspires one to immediately nudge their neighbor and share the spectacle, and it is this instinct that inspired the basis of this project.
It was my intention to design a prototype for a mobile app that would allow users to spot and share eagle sightings so that a user could know exactly where to go in order to catch a glimpse of the mighty bird.
The key functions of the app would be to search for and identify nearby eagle sightings, post an eagle sighting, and read additional details about the birds within a specific sighting. I was also focussed on crafting the look and feel of the app's design through color scheme and font selection in order to create an experience that best captured the feeling of spoting an eagle in the wild.
Design Process
To create this prototype, there was a very clear and structured process that I followed in order to create my final designs:
Brainstorm
The first step was to create a mood board in order to brainstorm how I wanted the app to look and feel, through selected text and color scheme. After generating multiple selections, I selected the strongest options and formed a final design guide that would be used to direct and inspire my design choices throughout the project.
I then took the selected colors and font and continued to brainstorm by drafting several layout options, ultimately selecting the layout I felt was most effective.
Wireframe
The next step was to create wireframes for the main pages and actions of the app such as searching for, viewing, and posting eagle sightings.
Polished Design
After completing my wireframes, I expanded upon and refined the wireframes by creating polished designs that reflected the final color choice and layout for each page of the app.
