Kona Kitchen

Restaurant Brand Identity Redesign

Kona Kitchen: Welcome

Client:
(Personal Project)

Role:
Brand Identity, Graphic Designer

Deliverables:

Logo, Menu, Website Mock-Up, Marketing Material

Year:

2018

For this project, I challenged myself the task of redesigning the brand of a local restaurant, named Kona Kitchen:  a small family-run restaurant owned by Japanese film actor Yuji Okumoto. It is a quiet and charming spot that one may venture to for delicious food and a relaxing atmosphere.

However, much of the business’ current visual identity (such as the logo and website) I found to be dated, too busy and cluttered. It was my goal to reduce the visual noise within the restaurant’s brand and I strove to create a new identity with more efficient and effective visual elements.

The specific communication goals that I aimed to capture were the feelings of relaxation and adventure that are both easily available on the beautiful Hawaiian islands. A fitting combination that also captures the exotic foods and calming mood that the restaurant itself holds and offers

Design Process

Throughout this project, there was a consistent design process that I followed to create each deliverable:

BRAINSTORM several rough concepts in Photoshop in order to generate a variety of ideas

SELECT the strongest concept

FLESH OUT the chosen concept to generate a refined draft

FINALIZE the draft and create a polished design
